When you do the math and work out how much you normally spend on the food that got you overweight in the first place, then deduct that from the Nutrisystem cost, you might be pleasantly surprised as many people are that it can even cost less than what you are already spending on food. Which, of course if you do the Nutrisystem diet you won’t be spending!

Tonsil Stones Cause Bad Breath

The most common symptom that effects people who suffer from tonsilloliths is simply having bad breath, or in correct medical terms, halitosis. Those who suffer these symptoms would agree that this is NOT the typical bad breath in the morning, but rather a more chronic symptom that is much harder to fight.

It is not hard to place halitosis symptom as the number one indicator that you are suffering from tonsil stones. Having Vitiligo and Avoiding Pain

There would be not any single person in this world who would like awkwardness, discomfort, pain and uncomfortable in his life when he/she has got this kind of white spots on skin. Do you? Probably there are few (very few rather) who have learned how to deal with awkwardness, discomfort and pain that life gives. Well, you can put me in this category.

You would be thinking why these feelings don’t matter to me or why I love to deal with them? Actually you are able to learn several things through these feelings. I wanted to be a healthiest person and started working to achieve optimal health.

Probably the main reason of becoming healthy was to avoid Vitiligo in my life or to get affected by this widely spreading disease at the moment.

An exercise program was then selected by me whom I started initially as three times a week. Actually I live in San Francisco Bay Area and therefore hiking is my regular habit year around. This habit helped me a lot in losing weight but I regained pigmentation (especially on my hands). Though it helped me in gaining lean muscle mass, but some parts of my legs lost pigmentation, and some Vitiligo spots also became evident in different areas on my chest (which were not there previously). I am also used to do Yoga on daily basis and now I feel fit and healthy.

Though I feel little discomfort as well as pain by doing these exercises but eventually it helps me keeping myself fit. This discomfort and pain obviously were necessary for me only if it was my intention to remain in shape.

All other areas of my life are also evident to this same pattern. Actually the growth in these areas requires me to experience discomfort socially (particularly in my every day life and in relationships).

There was an amazing realization in my mind (not that far in my past). I suddenly realized that I didn’t keep Vitiligo in my mind while I was busy in keeping myself healthy and fit for several months. I totally ignored the lack of pigmentation while I was busy in shaving myself which became evident eventually on my neck as well as around my mouth. Even it spreads all over my face but I didn’t worry about. I regularly went on dates and never brought a single thought in my mind that what someone would think about me. I only see me whenever I see my reflection in my window glass and totally ignore my disease Vitiligo. The disease is really nothing to me.

Cystic Acne – also known as nodulocystic acne, it is the most painful and the most severe case of Acne Vulgaris.  People usually use the term Cystic Acne to define the most severe acne breakouts.  But in actuality, Cystic Acne is a type of severe acne breakout that is only made up of cysts, nodules, or boils.  Cysts affect the skin deeper and are more painful than normal acne.

Most people will squeeze their pimples at one time or another – BUT with Cystic Acne, you really must not squeeze it however tempting it may be.  Squeezing an acne cyst may only worsen the infection, making it more painful and longer lasting.

Can I Catch Tonsil Stones from Someone Else?

It would be essential to use q-tips to rub against your stones and use the same swabs to rub against another person’s throat to directly come in contact and run a risk of contamination.

Coming to the coughing question: You can’t just catch stones from airborne elements. The risk is equivalent to that of catching cold and other viruses from someone who sneezed or coughed near you.

Nevertheless, precautions are necessary. Try to refrain from kissing, wash hands and face if someone accidentally coughs or sneezes near you, and keep yourself clean in general. Using antibacterial soaps and cleansers is a good way to avoid any uninviting infection. One must not use the same utensils as the person suffering from tonsils stones as the debris might find a way to reach your throat and form those nasty crypts there. Make sure everything is thoroughly washed and cleaned. Using the same towels or handkerchiefs is also not a healthy practice. Remember, prevention goes a long way in helping you keep any infection at bay, including tonsil stones. Don’t forget to maintain a daily oral hygiene routine – brushing, scraping, and gargling! This regimen should be followed regularly by everyone in the family to be on the safe side. And you’ll see, it’ll do wonders for your oral health as well.

It is obviously not advised to be too fussy or clean about this whole thing. Following your regular hygiene regimen and avoiding being very near to the patient should keep you from getting any tonsillolith! If you’re too concerned, you could always set up an appointment with a dentist, or do a simple home diagnosis to see if you’ve developed any of those stones, which, by the way, is highly unlikely. It is advised not to sweat the small stuff and to continue with your life in a healthy way, of course.


Whole Wheat Shortbread

Shortbread is said to have been a favourite of Mary Queen of Scots but dates back another 400 years before her reign so it is not surprising it is traditionally associated with Scotland.

Shortbread is one of those cookies that has a rule: the 1 – 2 – 3 rule – the ingredients should be in the ratio of 1 part caster or superfine sugar to 2 parts butter to 3 parts flour.  Simple.  Three simple ingredients bought together – well – simply.

  • 2 oz caster or superfine sugar
  • 4 oz butter, cubed
  • 6 oz flour

Sift the flour and sugar together, with some salt if you wish, then lightly rub in the butter until it resembles lumps of sand.

Draw it all together and lightly knead before placing the lump on a baking tray which does not have to be greased. Press it flat with the back of a spoon until it is round in shape and quite thin.

Bake it in a preheated oven set at 160 deg C  / 320 deg F /gas mark 3.  Let it turn a faint golden colour, anything from 8 – 12 minutes or even longer.

Take it out and let it cool for 10 minutes on its tray on a cake rack, then cut it into serving slices, and leave it on the baking tray until it is quite cold.  It will crisp up and make it easier to store in an airtight container.

It will be divine, crisp and buttery and perfect with a cup of tea.

Variations can be made with chocolate powder, replacing some of the flour with rice flour or even using nut butters but the rule is still in force.

But using whole wheat flour can alter the rule if you want to achieve the same melt in your mouth result, especially if it is the only flour that is used.

Using whole wheat flour, the ratios are 2 oz turbinado or demerara sugar : 5 oz butter : 7 oz whole wheat flour.  You will need to be more careful in handling this cookie dough since it breaks up easily and keep it thicker, up to one inch.  It is harder to make individual cookies.  It will be a darker colour to begin with and the timings increase to 20 minutes or so with the oven set slightly hotter at 180 deg C / 350 deg F / gas mark 4.

Using a combination of whole wheat flour and all purpose flour, the ratios are still 1:2:3.  That is, 2 oz sugar: 4 oz butter: 3 oz of whole wheat flour and 3 oz of white flour.  A cookie cutter works well with this combination.

This is a good recipe for the food processor or electric mixer but as in all good things baked at home, the quality of the ingredients is important, and none more so than the butter – it gives the shortbread a flavour that cannot be duplicated with shop bought goodies, unless you have paid over quite a bit of money for an artisan product.


My Remedies for Dry Cough

In a bowl, add one tablespoon of honey and a pinch of red pepper. Mix both ingredients properly then slowly lick the mixture to relieve dry cough.
  • Vitamin C: as much as possible, make sure that your diet is loaded with vitamin C to enhance your body’s immune system. You can get vitamin C through supplements or certain foods that are packed with vitamin C like citrus fruits.
  • Drink Plenty of Water: in case your cough condition is due to dehydration, you can treat this by consuming sufficient amount of water daily. Water can help keep your throat moist, thus preventing dry cough.
  • Humidifier: if your cough problem is due to dry air, you can opt for a humidifier for remedy. However, make sure that you use distilled water on your humidifier and keep it free from dust. This can provide you with moist air that can help you prevent dry cough.
  • Steam Therapy: opting for a steam therapy is one of the most effective home remedies for this condition. This can help keep your throat and nose moist. For this, simply boil water and pour it in a bowl or basin. Cover your head with a towel or a blanket to prevent the steam from escaping. Inhale the steam for several minutes or until the water has cooled down.

Are you pulling my leg? Cheap athletic socks that don’t feel awful?

When I was training for a three-day walking event to benefit a breast cancer charity about six years ago, I ditched a huge drawer full of cheap, white cotton socks and invested in several pairs of spendy, structured athletic socks. Before that, I hadn’t considered myself an athlete and I certainly wasn’t doing rigorous enough exercise to warrant buying $15 socks. But when I realized that part of the reason my feet were badly blistered, aching, and sweaty was the stretched-thin cotton I was covering them, I was convinced it was time to switch over.

After one ten-mile walk in the expensive athletic socks, I went home and made sure all of the cheapy socks were gone for good. The good kind have held up well all these years later, and I still love the feeling of the cushioned heel and ball of my foot, the reliable arch support, the wicking fabric and meshy top that keep my feet cool, and that they never slip down when I really get going.

I considered myself a convert, specifically to Thorlo socks. At $13-$15 a pair, this is a commitment I am willing to make for the well-being of my feet and my workouts.

Then the other day, I was cruising through Walgreen’s for some first aid supplies, when I noticed that they now carry athletic socks among the knee-high hosiery and corn pads. They were on sale, and I wondered if Walgreen’s was stocking cheaper socks that would actually work well for walking. In my curiosity, I bought some.

I chose the most expensive kind I found on the rack — Kushyfoot Athletics. I chose them because they have padded soles and arch support and are made of organic cotton. They promised to massage my feet with every step. The package contained one pair of white, low-cut socks — for $3.49!

I have to say, they are very comfortable. Even though they barely peek up above my running shoes, they did not slip or leave my heel rubbed raw. I can’t say that I felt like my feet were getting a rub-down during my workout, but they were surprisingly more cushy to the many pairs of cheapy cotton socks I once owned.

I will still stay true to my Thorlos. Kushyfoot athletic socks are just not as structured and wicking as they are. But I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a few more packages of Kushyfoots as runner-up walking socks. That way, if one gets eaten by the washing machine monster or I accidentally leave them at a hotel, I won’t be as devastated. If have some kind of workout emergency and have to run in to a Walgreen’s, CVS, Publix, or Kroger (just some of the grocery and drug stores where they are sold, according to their website), I will be able to find inexpensive socks I’ve already road-tested. The best part I won’t have to sacrifice wearing socks that feel good.

Yes PROPERLY… This is a very important term, not only for Olympic Lifts but for all vertical jump training.

A lot of coaches say Olympic lifts cause injuries and some claim that they are unnecessary to increase your vertical jump.

The TRUTH is actually the complete opposite!? These lifts can help your vertical jump fly… and the only way you get injured is by poor technique.

Your technique has to be really good and you need to have plenty of practice before incorporating cleans and snatches into your vertical jump training.
